How it works

Each skill is a folder with a SKILL.md: a description that tells Claude Code when to use it, followed by a step-by-step procedure and an output format. Put the folders in ~/.claude/skills/ (all projects) or .claude/skills/ (one repo, shared with your team). Claude picks the right skill when a task matches, or you can ask for one by name.
